Leading a business is a daunting task. The unique nature of thrift makes managing people, processes and profitability even more challenging. With decades of collective experience across the SMCo Thrift team, you can learn from our mistakes and successes as you manage your thrift operation.
Applying Best Practices
We’ve discovered two key principles that help make day-to-day management easier.
- We’re better together.
- Regular rhythms help build enduring habits that create momentum.
It starts with a weekly team meeting. This time fosters teamwork and it creates a sense of expectation. The agenda includes a leadership thought and a spotlight on one specific function within the organization, such as how to engage a donor so she chooses to donate again. It also includes a review of the metrics from the previous week, to celebrate successes and identify needed course corrections. At the end of each meeting, every team member knows where you are and where you are going.
The plans for these weekly meetings are shared with thrift operators across the country. And, as you might expect, questions arise, so SMCo Thrift has created a virtual gathering place where these questions can be unpacked together. In the Invitation-Only area, you receive insight from the SMCo Thrift team as well as wisdom from other like-minded leaders.
Lastly, the SMCo Thrift team hosts a group coaching session. Each month, we tackle a new topic and we answer several other questions we’ve fielded over the course of the preceding weeks.
Starts at $79 per month and every person in your organization is included.
Recruiting, Training, and Leading Staff
We’re in a people business. Not only are we engaging donors, customers, and volunteers on a daily basis, we are leading teams of employees to receive and sort donations, display merchandise and serve customers, and work alongside volunteers. Investing in your teams is a wise use of resources.
In addition to sharing the Best Practices resources listed above, SMCo Thrift provides …
- Job descriptions for all positions
- Policy & Procedures manual
- Employee handbook
- Employee engagement survey
- Training materials
Access to these resources, in addition to the Best Practices content, provides needed structure to make the most of your human resources.
Starts at $99 per month for use across your entire organization.
